Exciting Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun will be sold by the club this summer after he rejected terms on a new contract.

The 18-year-old striker is very highly rated and Brentford saw a £5m bid for the player rejected in January.

The New York-born striker has scored 10 goals in 15 appearances for the Under-23s this season, but he is yet to appear for the first-team.

Talks between the club, the player and his representatives have been ongoing with his deal set to expire in June 2021.

However, talks are believed to have broken down with The Athletic claiming Balogun has decided to leave the club after rejecting Arsenal’s terms.

Goal claims Arsenal wanted the England youth international to sign a performance-based deal, with numerous triggers for the player. However, the deal has been rejected by the player and they have called off talk.

Arsenal, who already have youngsters Tyreece John-Jules and Eddie Nketiah around the first-team set-up, are now focused on getting the best price for the striker so they do not lose him for free next summer.

It’s understood Arsenal’s new transfer policy is to try and use performance-based deals to try to motivate youngsters and get them into the first-team set-up.

Balogun to follow Amaechi

However, teenage winger Xavier Amaechi left last summer after failing to agree to terms offered by Arsenal.

Amaechi signed for Hamburg for £2.25m, plus several million in performance-related add-ons, with Arsenal included a sell-on clause, but no buy-back option.

It’s believed the Gunners will be looking for a similar sort of deal for Balogun, although the forward will command a larger transfer fee after Brentford saw their bid rejected earlier this season.
