The Red Devils have been boosted by the news that one of their priority targets for the summer transfer window has reportedly told friends ‘he wants [a] transfer to Man Utd’.
With the continued uncertainty regarding the long-term future of Paul Pogba, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is strongly tipped to be on the hunt for a creative playmaker in the summer to compliment recent arrival Bruno Fernandes.
Rising Premier League duo James Maddison and Jack Grealish have both frequently been linked with a summer switch, though interest in the former of those names appears to have cooled in recent weeks.
That leaves Villa talisman Grealish in Solskjaer’s crosshairs, with one pundit outlining why he would be a perfect fit for the red half of Manchester.
Grealish, who has also been linked with Liverpool, has been their standout performer in what has been a tough return to the Premier League for Dean Smith’s side.
Tottenham were keen to sign 24-year-old when Mauricio Pochettino was in charge last summer and it is thought they may yet renew their interest after losing Christian Eriksen to Inter Milan in January.
Should the Villains succumb to relegation, Grealish will almost certainly move on in the summer, and now the latest report from British newspaper the Mirror has ratcheted up the possibility of said exit.
The outlet (who cite the Manchester Evening News) claim the 24-year-old has ‘confided in his friends that he wants to join Manchester United.’
The attacking midfielder has racked up an impressive nine goals and seven assists this term, often appearing to be the only thing keeping Villa heads above water at times.
The prospect of a midfield three with Scott McTominay holding and flanked by Grealish and Fernandes would appear to be the perfect combination for Solskjaer in terms of age, profile and talent.
Chief executive Ed Woodward recently spoke regarding Utd’s transfer dealings, with the key comment focusing on what promises to be a busy summer at Old Trafford.
“Our recruitment process focuses on analysis and selection of players over the course of a season, with a view to the following summer transfer window. As part of the rebuild we see this coming summer as an important opportunity, said Woodward.”
Meanwhile, teenage striking sensation Erling Braut Haaland has laughed off a comical element of Man Utd’s failed January pursuit.
Numerous reasons had done the rounds explaining why the transfer fell through, but Haaland took exception with one particular line of thinking.
