Jurgen Klopp this morning labelled Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola the finest tactician on the planet, ahead of Liverpool’s meeting with the Citizens this weekend.

Liverpool vs Man City

The most high-profile fixture of the Premier League season to this point is set to be played out at Anfield on Sunday evening.

Table-toppers Liverpool will welcome 2nd-placed City to Merseyside, in a showdown of England’s top two clubs.

Hosts Liverpool are set to head into proceedings 6 points clear of the champions, having secured wins in all but 1 of their league outings to this point in the campaign.

The Reds’ most recent matchup, meanwhile, saw Sadio Mane’s injury-time header complete a last-gasp turnaround at Aston Villa.

Manchester City, on the other hand, have already fallen to a pair of Premier League defeats, at the hands of Norwich and Wolves, over the early months of the season.

The Sky Blues’ last outing, much like Liverpool’s, also saw Pep Guardiola’s men require a late comeback, to put Southampton to the sword by 2 goals to 1.

‘Couldn’t respect him more’

The battle for Premier League supremacy aside, another of the main talking points in the media ahead of Sunday’s crunch clash, meanwhile, has been the war of words between Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.

After the former appeared to label Sadio Mane a diver following Liverpool’s late show at Aston Villa, Klopp hit back with a less-than-subtle ‘tactical fouls’ jibe during the week.

As such, genuine tension looked to be brewing between the pair in anticipation of what could prove a decisive matchup in the Premier League title race.

Jurgen Klopp, though, has today moved to clear the air.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference this morning, the Liverpool boss was drawn on his Manchester City counterpart.

And, after confirming that he maintains the utmost respect for Guardiola, Klopp went on to reveal his opinion that the Spanish tactician’s track record around Europe proves that he is ‘the best manager in the world’:
