Burnley moved up to eighth place in the Premier League with a 1-0 win over a lacklustre Crystal Palace side at Selhurst Park.

After an uneventful first half, Ben Mee’s 62nd minute goal proved to be the decisive moment, the centre back heading in Ashley Westwood’s free kick.

Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita will be particularly disappointed to have conceded having got a hand to Mee’s effort, but he failed to push it away from goal and allowed it to find the bottom right corner.

The hosts did threaten more after falling behind, with Andros Townsend and Jordan Ayew, who was arguably lucky to avoid being sent off for violent conduct earlier in the half, going close.

However, the Eagles could not find an equaliser and fell to a second consecutive defeat after their 4-0 loss at Liverpool last week.

Burnley are now level on points with Tottenham and hold realistic hopes of securing Europa League football for next season.
